MY THOUGHTS ON YAOI and by yaoi I mean crit.
So like . . . This is just rambling to myself, mostly! It's not directed at any one person, so I kept it out of the concrit comm, it's just . . . my views on giving crit, recieving crit, etc. Feel free to ignore it.

So like . . . What I'm seeing a lot of crit-wise these days is . . . people don't really respect anonymous concrit as much as they respect crit when there's a face on it. There's a lot of 'you're not from my cast, so your opinion is less valid' . . . and . . . this isn't anyone in particular, again! I just sometimes see it thrown out there, and this isn't telling anyone to change or trying to lay the blame on anyone.

But . . . In my opinion? If someone has a genuine concern about something your character has done, even if they're not a castmember, even if they're not a player, I think it's a good thing to not necessarily drop everything to accommodate that crit, but at least keep it in mind for the future and threads from then on?

Because castmates are . . . I don't want to say 'biased', because I'm sure if something was going terribly wrong your castmates would be the first to tell you! But castmates are the people most likely to spend a lot of time talking to you, the person, OOC, and liking the player more might . . . make things a bit hazy, crit-wise. They might think, ". . . mm, this particular interaction was kind of off? But [Player] is absolutely wonderful at [Character], so I'm sure they have a plan!" Which . . . most of the time is true! Because we're all awesome people here and no one is drastically OOC or worrying or anything, so far as I know.

Anonymous concrit is special because if one player has concerns about another one, they can go anonymous and mention it without the second player going "Oh no, she hates me now"-- It's meant for people to be able to get insight on things that could become problems later! It's meant to be an issue that could've been raised by anyone. It could be a castmate who's gone anon! There's no way to tell. That's really the point of it!

I can't say whether I, personally, would take anonymous concrit as seriously as I'd take crit from a castmate. I know that if an anon said I was doing great and all my castmates wanted me skinned and boiled, I'd have to doubt the anon's sincerity! Ah, but if all my castmates said I was doing well and an anon had a concern, I'd definitely keep that in mind. Because this game is for fun first of all, but being IC is a major part of it and I would want to know if I was . . . not being IC! Or if my actions were seeming unclear to people watching.

(THAT SAID: CRIT ME ANYTIME, FOR ANYONE, FOR ANY REASON. Anon, non-anon, whatever! I'd rather know about things up-front than have horrible nights thinking "OH GOD I KNOW SOMEONE MUST WANT TO CRIT ME THEY'RE PROBABLY GOSSIPING BEHIND MY BACK"!)

Again, this is not directed at anyone in particular. It's just me throwing something out there. Food for thought, if you will. I don't want anyone to change their behaviours or think that I'm targeting them, because I'm not! I really do love you all and it's not my place to lecture anyone. I just thought I'd, y'know, mention it while it was on my mind.

Just for the sake of throwing it out there, I personally do have some major issues with anonymous crit. And it honestly has NOTHING to do with castmate versus non-castmate or player versus audience, and really, it's not even an issue of crit, but simply the issue of anonymous. It's simply that anonymous is anonymous, it could be anybody, and you don't know if an anonymous comment in a discussion is from someone who knows what they're talking about and is genuinely concerned with the issue, or if it's just a particularly sadistic troll BSing things just to try to make someone upset. Though admittedly that's a particularly extreme and unlikely example, but hopefully it illustrates the general idea.

Basically, I think it's an issue of trust. I find it extremely difficult to trust Anonymous, simply because of the nature of Anonymous. Sure, I've used anonymous comments for things myself (outside CFUD), but in those cases I don't expect it to be taken as seriously as a signed comment, not being willing to associate the statement with myself also potentially gives it less meaning, etc. 'Anonymous' tends to be more a collective than an individual person, even though obviously there's a person behind each anonymous comment, and as such it... can be really difficult to deal with or even take seriously in the first place at times.

So yeah, just throwing that out there. I know in my case this DOES stem a lot from personal experience and issues, so I can't say if anyone else sees it the same way, but. I guess I'm saying maybe it's not a castmate versus non-castmate issue so much as that anonymity in general can be an issue for people? :/
